Hello there!

About me

2014-03-04 14.47.23Hello! My name is Lauren and I’m the solo owner and creator of Bookmark Lit. I started my blog in July 2014 without any knowledge of if book blogs were even a thing. I’ve been so pleasantly surprised by the blogging community I’ve joined and the people I’ve become friends with. I graduated from a small business college in 2013 with a Marketing degree. I minored in Literary & Cultural Studies and Sociology. I spend my days at a small recruiting firm in Connecticut, working on their marketing, account management, and recruiting. I live with my boyfriend Chris and we’ve been together since 2012. He doesn’t read nearly as much as me, but he’s been going crazy with audiobooks while he works. We have an apartment full of books and young adult books, so clearly us 23 year olds have no intentions of growing up any time soon! My ultimate dream would be to go back2014-08-17 21.46.59 to school for a Master’s/PhD to become a professor. I love cultural studies and gender studies and would kill to teach those subjects at a college level. I love the Carolina Panthers more than anything in the world. I can’t explain how crazy I get when I watch them play; I inherited my football insanity from both of my parents. I scream, swear, cheer, and jump off the couch constantly. My overall mood from September through January depends solely on the Panthers’ record. I love drinking a coffee while I read in bed, or lounging outside with a slurpee and a book. I love the TV show Friends more than anyone. No really, I do, don’t even try to challenge it. I’ve gone through a DVD boxed set already because I watched the discs too much. I used to sneak out into the living room while my mom watched the show and it was WAY too inappropriate for my eight year old self. If you want to know anything else about me, feel free to comment or shoot me an email at lauren.bookmarklit@gmail.com! I’m always down to meet bookish people or fangirl over some books.

My reading story

I’ve been addicted to reading since I learned how in elementary school. I would frequent the library with my Nana or Barnes & Noble with my parents. Getting a new book was way better than getting a new toy. I was able to keep this up through the middle school and early high school years. It was harder to stay home and read once I got my license, because then I was always off with my friends. I still managed to do a great deal of reading up until college started. They always told me I would never be able to keep reading books for pleasure throughout college, and I made it my goal to prove them wrong… I wish I could say that I did! Unfortunately, my critics were right. 2013-07-15 14.07.14With all of the textbook and course-related reading, the last thing I wanted to do was look at a book page. I spent my free time browsing the internet and binge-watching Netflix like every other college student. The summers, however, were another story. Through my three summer breaks between college years, I devoured books on my lunch break at my internship. I had a whole hour to sit outside and read; it was amazing. No matter how hard I tried when I returned to school, I couldn’t get back into reading. I made it my personal goal to get back into reading when I started my full time job. It took me a little while, between moving out of my parents’ house and in with my boyfriend, spending time with friends, and just wanting to relax in front of the TV after 8 hours at the office. Now it has been a over a year since I graduated; I am back reading like I used to and it feels great. I have always attempted to create blogs but never knew where to begin. I would start one up and then scrap it two minutes later. Here you’ll find what books I’ve been reading and my reactions to them. I’ll also make some book related recommendation lists and participate in weekly memes, challenges, and readalongs. For more info about me, check out my frequently asked questions.

  1. Hello there! I am new to the book blogosphere and just love your site! I came across it yesterday and I must say that I really like the new banner! I can definitely relate as a college student who loves to binge-watch Netflix. I love how much you love Friends… I am just starting to get into it and must say that so far Ross and Chandler are tied for my favorite. 🙂

I love reading your comments and talking with you! Leave one for me.
